Blogging Assignment Week 3

Here's an article from Salon.com about an Idaho woman who is challenging the fetal pain laws that prohibit abortion in Idaho after 20 weeks.

  1. I think this article is very interesting, as they are many points that can be argued in this case. First of all, I agree with the state that it may be unjust for a mother to abort her baby after 5 months, because that seems to be getting to a state where the fetus can feel, and may even "have a soul". Yet there are so many other issues here. If the mother did not have enough money to get a real abortion, a procedure done by a licensed doctor, then I see how she felt the pills were her only option. But why did she wait so long to take the pills? Why not take them right when she found out she was pregnant as opposed to five or six months into the pregnancy? Then, if the state prosecutes her, it actually won't do that much. They will throw her in jail for up to five years, and then what will happen to her three children? It seems like it would do more harm that it would do good. She has a lot of unfortunate circumstances which make her case somewhat valid, even though she did break the law. So it will be a hard case for the judge or jury to determine.

Here's another interesting article about abortion; it is about the laws that are siding towards anti-abortion.
